Fall Fundraiser to Feature San Clemente Mayor Chris Duncan

Thursday's fall fundraiser is fast approaching and we are looking forward to seeing you for drinks, pizza, and some exciting 2024 candidates! Let's take a moment to introduce our special guest...

San Clemente Mayor Chris Duncan

Chris Duncan is a third-generation Californian, accomplished local mayor, former federal prosecutor, and a father of three. Now, Chris is running to represent our community in the Assembly to put the middle-class first, lower costs for working families, and ensure all our children grow up safe with real opportunity.

As the Mayor of San Clemente and a City Councilmember before that, Chris has made his city safer, protected a woman’s right to choose, prioritized smart growth and affordable housing, worked to create jobs, invested in clean energy, and helped small businesses survive the pandemic. Hailed for being a bridge-builder and a problem solver, Chris has earned a reputation for his bipartisan accomplishments and delivering real results.

Called to public service after 9/11, Chris Duncan spent more than 16 years as a federal prosecutor under both Democratic and Republican administrations, going after political corruption, corporate wrongdoing, and domestic terrorism. While working as a Senior Attorney at U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the Department of Homeland Security, Chris won several awards for his work penalizing foreign companies for trade violations, rooting out government corruption, and training hundreds of special agents on how to spot and report ethical violations.

Our club will be voting on an endorsement in this important race at our October 5th meeting. This is a great opportunity to meet Chris before voting on an endorsement.

July 6 Meeting to Feature SD Dem Party GO Team Director

Pete Babich has always been a reliable Democratic voter, but the election of George W. Bush and the invasion of Iraq motivated him to become more involved with politics. He joined the North-Central Democratic Club and served as Membership Chair. In 2005, he was the prime mover to form the Poway Democratic Club, and has been the club president or a member of the board every year since then. Pete walked his first precinct in 2002 and has walked multiple precincts in every election since. He’s been the Poway GO Team Community Coordinator since 2005 and recently accepted the roles of North-Inland Region Community and Data Coordinator. In the 2022 elections, he had a key role in the County Party’s effort to train more data coordinators so that GO Team members have timely and accurate materials to help get out the vote. A seven-year Navy veteran who served in submarines, Pete has a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked at Hewlett-Packard for seventeen years, starting as a product designer and ended as a senior manager for HP’s worldwide, color, inkjet printer business. He then ran his own business for twenty-three years developing and selling business planning software to small and mid-size organizations.
